Rare Tips for Better Presentations

October 31, 2019

It doesn’t take much of the intellect for a modern person to make a presentation by using a PC or any other device. But it takes a certain level of originality for a person to make it look decent, not oversaturated and most importantly – easy for perception. These are the tips on how to make a presentation that will hold the audience’s attention from the first slide to the last.

Amount of Slides

The first unwritten rule of regular presentation that you have to break is slide limit. Some may argue and say that 10 minutes of speech should not be accompanied by more than 20 slides. However, if you want to be heard and remembered by everybody in the room, you should have no problem with stepping over the barrier of this traditional numerical mindset. Don’t be shy to spread your information in more than 250 slides. Bigger amount of slides is more likely to wake up the audience, whereas one static slide per minute can put them to sleep. In order for everything to work in your interest, you have to note the main directions for your imagination to go to.

Fonts and Texts

Audience wants to receive the information with minimum amount of effort of their sensory system. That is why it is unwise to use fonts that take more than a few seconds for a viewer to look through. The more text you will have, the more likely that no one is going to read it. What you want to do is neglect the rules of regular fonts and if necessary make letters bigger than people make usually. That way you won’t have to use as much text information as you initially thought you needed to.

Images

Images are commonly used in presentations and the fact of their presence cannot surprise anybody. But the trick is to use them properly. The best way to explain it is by using an example to exemplify the difference from both traditional and original perspective.

Let’s say, in your presentation you have to tell a brief background about the media person that has relation to the subject.

Traditional method

Idea: you place one image of the person with text that says “got popular on the internet”
Amount of Slides: 1.
Audience’s Reaction: people will not get excited and will see it as another presentation. Moreover, they may not even hear and process this tiny bit of information.

Original method

Idea:you place a gigantic image of an opened notebook on your slide. You copy that slide, and on top of the notebook’s screen you place a layer of screenshot from YouTube video with that person. Then, on the following slide you circle the amount of views under the video. On the following slide you place on the screen of notebook an article about top internet celebrities. And on the final slide you put an arrow next to the number of your character.
Amount of Slides: 5
Audience’s Reaction: people will not only remember how this person got popular. They will also appreciate your effort and the form of your delivery which will only make them want to work with you in the future.

Presenting your information and ideas in this type of stop motion manner will make it memorable and informative experience. Of course it will take more time for you to make it look good. But it can also be fun, creative process that will have a positive effect on your reputation.
