1. Visiting the Los Fundadores Park and watching traditional Mayan performances

Not only is the Los Fundadores Park decorated with impressive sculptures which have been made by talented local artisans but the park also hosts regular traditional Mayan dance performances. So if you want to experience a bit of authentic Mexican culture on your sun-filled beach getaway, it’s well worth visiting Los Fundadores Park.

2. Exploring the Xaman-Ha Ruins

If exploring ancient ruins makes you feel like an intrepid explorer like Indiana Jones, it’s well worth spending some time exploring the Xaman-Ha ruins, which are located in Playacar. As you’ll be able to see the remains of ancient Mayan buildings which were used until they were abandoned in the 16th century. If you visit the Xaman-Ha Ruins make sure to keep an eye out for iguanas, that you should be able to spot sunbathing on ancient Mayan ruins.

3. The Playa del Carmen is home to numerous picture-perfect beaches

If you visit the stunning Playa del Carmen you’ll be able to swim and sunbathe at a different beach each day. Examples of which include Point Esmerelda Beach, a public beach that boasts its own limestone water hole, where you can swim or Playacar Beach, which is known for its soft, white sand.

4. Being able to learn about the incredible life of Frida Kahlo

Chances are high that you’ve heard of Frieda Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most famous artists. If you’re interested in learning about Kahlo’s life and her struggles with crippling pain after being involved in a tragic bus accident, you’ll be able to visit the Museo Frida Kahlo Playa del Carmen, where you’ll be able to enjoy a guided tour of the museum.

5. The Playa del Carmen is home to one of the largest eco-parks in the world

One of the highlights of any trip to the Playa del Carmen should be Xcaret, which features a wide variety of attractions from an underground river which you can tube down, to big budget cabaret shows, white water rafting, dolphin experiences, and jet boating. So if you have a real spirit for adventure and like the idea of getting hands-on and taking part in adventurous activities and watching traditional Mexican dances at a popular cabaret show, you’ll fall in love with Xcaret.

Just be sure to allocate a couple of days to exploring Xcaret as there’s no way to take part in all of the activities which are on offer in a single day!

6. You’ll be able to shop till you drop

While you may not think of the Playa del Carmen as a shopping destination, it’s home to Fifth Avenue a street which backs straight on to the beach and which is teeming with international stores and local boutiques, where you’ll be able to find all manner of souvenirs such as locally handcrafted items.
