An exploding culinary and arts scene and an ever amazing nightlife further add to the experience. From picture-perfect spots to off-beat attractions, Mexico is a huge treasure chest. Below are some of its most captivating places of interest that you can visit:

The Zocalo (Plaza de la Constitucion) is located in the heart of Mexico City and is the largest squares in the world. It is flanked by the National Palace to the east and the Metropolitan Cathedral to the north, as well as other known historic buildings. A large Mexican flag is at the center and is raised and lowered each day. This city square has been an assembly place for the Mexicans since Aztec times and today majority of events are hosted there such as demonstrations, concerts, and other social gatherings.

Oaxaca

It is yet another fascinating city housing impressive archaeological sites, bustling markets, and top-class museums. In fact, it offers a great chance to explore the rich Mexican history and culture. With its warm and hospitable population, Oaxaca stands out for its outstanding travel experiences. The city is also significant to Mexico’s food traditions with a variety of delicious local dishes.

Yucatan

The regions through the Yucatan Peninsula are the popular places from where most tourists begin their Mexican holidays. This is also because Cancun and Mexico City are comparatively better connected with the international cities. From places like Cancun and Playa Del Carmen that always boast of the maximum number of travelers to laidback attractions Cozumel or the town of Tulum, Yucatan is varied and intriguing.

Chapultepec Park

This is the Mexico City’s principal park that covers an area approximately four square kilometers. The Aztecs settled around here in the AD 1200, and according to legend, a park was laid out in the early 15th century. Over time, this hill was made summer residence of the Aztec rulers. Today, this park is very popular for its lakes, botanic garden, sports facilities and museums- the National Museum of Anthropology and the National History Museums along with many fun events such as theatrical performances and concerts.

Copper Canyon

Lying in the north-eastern corner of Chihuahua, the Copper Canyon awaits its tourists with all its splendor. With six spectacular deeps, this canyon even more spectacular than the Grand Canyon. Be ready to experience a rich and vast biodiversity in this region along with an array of adventure activities to indulge in. Enjoy camping, bird watching and the different shades of nature in this beautiful place.

Catedral Metropolitana

What comes to the mind of many people when viewing the Catedral Metropolitana or Metropolitan Cathedral is that it’s the oldest and largest cathedral in the new world. It is located in Plaza Zocala. The cathedral is also stunning especially when it is lit up during the nights. The church was built by use of stones from the Aztec’s Templo Mayor. The cathedral also represents numerous architectural styles and holds a collection of artifacts and paints, many from the colonial era.

Cuernavaca

At a distance of 49 miles from Mexico City, Cuernavaca, also known as the ‘the City of the Eternal Spring’, is home to colorful landscapes and a scented ambiance that comes from the local wildflowers like bugambilias, jacarandas, lilies, jasmines, tabachines, and daisies. With a history dating back to 1200 A.D., Cuernavaca is dotted with many historic buildings and colonial structures that continue to intrigue people after so many years. Culinary tours, cultural events and adventures like climbing, skydiving, kayak, surfing, camping, rappel, canyoning and mountain biking are also an integral part of a trip to the city.

Xochimilco

It is a suburb of Mexico City that sat the shores of Lake Xochimilco just before the Spanish arrived. Today, Xochimilco is famous for its canals that connected the villages just around the lake in the past. Tourists or other visitors can have enjoyable rides via the 110-mile canal system. If you wish to view historical buildings, then this is a good place for you.

Guanajuato

The colonial city of Guanajuato is located in North-Central Mexico and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The houses here paint a beautiful picture in almost every imaginable color. The entire city is dotted with architectural marvels that reflect neoclassical and baroque-style architecture. The famous historical sites include Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato, Templo de la Compania, San Roque Church and Jardin de la Union. The colorful and cobblestoned alleys of the city are also worth exploring.

The palace of fine arts

This is the most vital cultural landmark that was designed by Italian architect Adamo Boari and was completed in 1934. It is also known to be very heavy that it was sunk more than four meters. Today, the palace serves as a concert hall hosting many traditional as well as international dances.
