A man from Southern California has managed to beat the odds and won four big(ish) lottery prizes in a span of just six months. The biggest of his wins was $5 million, second biggest was $1 million, and then two smaller wins – $1000 and $600. It’s worth remembering now that my own lottery winnings from playing pretty much every week for the last couple of years have earned me….actually no, they haven’t earned me anything, the $2 and $5 wins, all those three, have been enough to pay for couple of weeks worth of tickets (keeping in mind that I have been buying tickets for the last 150 weeks or so….).
The lucky man is Antulio Mazariegos and he said he just liked to play the game, and isn’t sure why he’s had such luck lately. Although, while he says he simply likes to play, I doubt he’s not appreciating the wins either.
Of course, Antulio isn’t the only person who has managed to score big more than once. While winning that frequently isn’t very common, other people have won multiple times as well. Joan Ginther won $5.3 million in 1993, $2 million in 2006, $3 million in 2008 and $10 million in 2010. Not to shabby, eh? Richard Lustig has won 7 times. While none of his winnings have been close to millions, put all together they still reach the $1 million mark. Virginia Fike of Virginia managed to win $1 million….twice, during one day. I don’t know if they bought the lottery online or from a newsstand, but these people are pretty lucky when it comes to money I must say.
While the odds of winning a lottery are rather low, depending on a lottery, 1 in X million, life shows that the low odds doesn’t mean it can’t happen, and as it happens, to some people, it can happen over and over and over again. Is it luck? Is it karma? Is it something or someone else? I have a feeling that’s something we will never know.
